Some Call It Gaudy, Some Call It Glamorous, but We’re Just Happy 80s Jewelry Is Back in a Big Way

We just finished oohing and aahing as athletes from all around the world wrapped up their quests for a medal over in Italy. The Winter Olympics are officially over, but you can still go for the gold. That’s because our old trend-predicting friend Pinterest Predicts is projecting 80s jewelry will be back in style this year. Announcing it as part of the “Glamoratti” section that champions everything 80s, ranging from strong-shouldered suits to funnel-neck jackets. The latter is already making its presence known. It’s the brilliant baubles that have really piqued our interest since we’re a very vocal bling ring.

No doubt Saint Laurent is the patron saint of the decade of excess’ renaissance in the 2020s. Anthony Vaccarello’s spot-on aesthetic also reaches to the famous fashion house’s jewelry, which is why so many of its flashy pieces found their way into this lineup. While Pinterest predicts that searches for gold cuffs will skyrocket over 50 percent, pretty much anything chunky and gold fits the 80s bill. Which is why we didn’t just stick to arm candy as delightful as the current selection may be.

Just like in the 80s, we figure more is definitely more. Let’s kick things off with earrings. From dramatic colored stones partnered with other dramatic colored stones to outrageous hoops — both the full and half varieties — to Jimmy Choo’s over-the-top fringe pair to Miu Miu’s twisted take and even & Other Stories’ cuff set, bigger is better. You don’t have to be rocking pierced ears to get in on the action, either. A surprising number are actually clip-ons.

Next up are necklaces. Chunky chains are already in the limelight as their stock keeps climbing. Ben-Amun’s 24k Gold Electroplated Necklace is a fresh spin on the craze since its chains are more armor-like. Chokers are also in the running, especially ones with pendants. See Julietta’s art deco-esque yet totally 80s-style Nysa Necklace. Just as with earrings, colorful stones are proving popular. Mango’s Combined-Resin Bead Necklace will really pop layered around any popped collars on polo shirts. While the more abstract shapes of Completedworks’ necklace provide a unique backdrop for its pink resin accents.

Here come the rings. Feel free to layer them all up and down your fingers. Even those pinkies and thumbs. You’ll be able to achieve the desired effect in a flash with YSSO’s swirling Aella Gold-Plated Ring. Animal lover? Pick up Alexis Bittar’s Gold Panther Visage Ring that looks like it came straight out of an estate sale. Chloe’s ring is a horse of the same color. Speaking of colors, gold isn’t your only option. The mix of orange and brown found on The Bag Icon’s statement creation makes it even more of a stunner. If you’re torn between shades, the Loewe Push Pin Embellished Ring supplies a veritable rainbow.
